Dead On Arrival This is a straight-forward lament for all of those who struggle to find their way . . . their love . . . themselves . . . amid the complexities of the tumultuous, modern world .................Seems kind of tragic .................The role that fate decrees .................On us lost and lonely .................People only Souls There is a repeated undercurrent of pessimism throughout this song . . . a recognition of the boredom so many of us face . . . a willingness to abandon our youthful dreams . . . .................Hopelesslessy waiting . . . for life's final blow .................How captivating is the late-night T.V. show? .................Seemed kind of magic .................'til I found it just ain't so .................For us lost and lonely .................People only Souls The song ends with a long fade-out and the repeated refrain that acknowledges the drudgery of many a modern life, by simply saying .................Life goes on . . . .................Life's so long . . . The production has a distinct country feel. The acoustic guitar player that came in had a great feel for the song. He double-tracked his part, and there's a synth and a piano. Pretty simple really. Nia Peeples version of this used the original lyrics, but was mixed with much more of a country feel. The electric guitar solo was taken out in the instrumental, and a full gospel choir was added. The choral refrain in Nia's version added significantly to the power of the ending. |
